Every year Amigo Mobility raises money for United Way of Saginaw to help support our local community. Recently United Way came to Amigo to include Vice President Beth Thieme in their 2011 Donor Support Video. Amigo Mobility was one of six businesses, the other businesses featured are Wildfire Credit Union, Wanigas Credit Union, Hemlock Semiconductor, Spence Brothers Construction and the SISD.

Thank you United Way for all you do for Saginaw!

Greetings from Scottsdale!

This week I attended one of the most unique trade shows for the retail industry – StorePoint. Located in Scottsdale, Ariz. this year, buyers and suppliers met to hear presentations from companies and also had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with potential and current customers.

It is always a fun and productive conference – and it doesn’t hurt that the weather was warm and sunny! I was excited to present Amigo’s new innovations for our Amigo Shopper product line

One of the ideas we introduced at StorePoint was lithium batteries, they provide much longer battery life and they are more eco-friendly than lead-acid batteries. This technology, also used in the 2011 Car of the Year Chevy Volt, is brand new in the POV/scooter market and is also available on the Amigo TravelMate, call 1-800-MY-AMIGO or e-mail for more info.

Amigo in the Great Lakes Bay Magazine

In the January/February 2011 Great Lakes Bay Magazine, Amigo Mobility ran this ad featuring my friend and local business owner Jimmie Dobson. Founder of the Antique Toy and Firehouse Museum, Jimmie has started a variety of businesses based in Bay City, Mich. and his family currently owns and runs Dobson Healthcare.

Jimmie is pictured on a custom-made Amigo POV/scooter designed to look like a firetruck. Amigo can make custom decals and features for you, contact us for more information.

Announcing a new mobility safety product - the Alert Light!

Amigo has recently added a new safety accessory, the Alert Light, to our line of mobility POV/scooters. The battery-operated Alert Light provides high visibility in both daylight and darkness on POV/scooters, power chairs and other mobility equipment.

Spurred by an increasing number of accidents involving those using mobility vehicles in high-traffic areas, James Wilcox, an employee of Valley Metro Transit System in Phoenix, Ariz., began building a device that would allow for better visibility of individuals using mobility equipment. James got in touch with Al Thieme, Amigo Founder and President. Al saw James' passion and enthusiasm for this product and was excited to help him make his idea a reality. After months of testing and building prototypes, the Alert Light was completed.

Features of the Alert Light include:
    • orange safety flag combined with LED light which can be set as a solid glow or flashing strobe
    • battery-operated (batteries are included)
    • on/off switch
    • textured grip handle for easy folding
    • weatherproof
Ron B. shares his satisfaction with the Alert Light. "The Alert Light has been a real life saver for my wife and I. The bright orange flag and light stick get the attention of drivers that would otherwise not see us at all. Our daughter even loves the Alert Light I mounted on the rear basket of her bicycle!"
    For more information, visit mobilityalertlight.com.

Interested in buying an Alert Light for you or a loved one? Order one today for just $35 or a case of 12 for $336 (savings of $7 per light). Contact Amigo Service at 800-248-9131.

Welcome to Amigo Mobility's new blog -- the Friendly Wheels! Over the past 42 years, the Friendly Wheels has been part of Amigo Mobility. It started as a short newsletter that went out to our customers, then it grew into a small, full-color magazine that was mailed out to hundreds of people. Today, it has evolved into a monthly e-newsletter filled with inspirational stories of Amigo owners, mobility tips and up-to-date information about Amigo.

With the launch of our newly re-designed Web site www.myamigo.com, we are excited to connect with our customers even more and help you get to know Amigo Mobility even better. The Friendly Wheels e-newsletter will continue to go out the first Friday of every month, but be sure to bookmark this blog, www.amigomobilityblog.com, for even more information and tips.

Some blog posts will be written by me, but I'm looking forward to you getting to know others at Amigo too. Visit our contributors page to learn more about our upcoming Amigo bloggers. From time to time, we will also feature other guest bloggers. (Interested in contributing? Contact me!)

Thank you for your support! We are looking forward to making this an interactive, fun and helpful blog for our Amigo community.
