"How tweet it is" - Amigo on Twitter

In the recent article "How tweet it is: Local businesses use Twitter to connect with customers" in the Saginaw News, Amigo Mobility was featured along with other local businesses that use Twitter such as Bronner's, Bavarian Inn and Magic Bean Cafe.

I was happy to be part of the article; I've been tweeting since May 2009, focusing on topics such as mobility, health and disability awareness. I enjoy sharing stories of our customers on Twitter as well as what's new at Amigo.

Read a portion of the article here:

In the five years since the first tweet was sent on the message system Twitter, businesses in the Great Lakes Bay Region have caught on to the service’s appeal.

For Amigo’s 1,013 followers, Jennifer Kehres recently sent a link to a video of Amigo owner Ron Bachman rallying fifth- through eighth-grade students in Virginia against bullying.

“Twitter, for me, has made the world a smaller place,” Kehres said. “It allows us to connect with people who we normally wouldn’t have access to.”

Jennifer Kehres said she has used Twitter to find guests to write on the Amigo blog, for harvesting questions and ideas for the company’s e-newsletter and to build relationships with other businesses.

100 Years Young

Last week Bridgeport mobility consultant, Missy Reinke, visited longtime Amigo owner and friend, Hazel, for her 100th birthday celebration. Happy birthday, Hazel!

Although she is able to walk short distances, Hazel uses her Amigo,
or "Mom's Taxi," to get around.

Amigo at Euroshop

I recently traveled to Düsseldorf, Germany for the international retail trade show Euroshop. Occurring only every three years, the show was huge and it was incredible to connect with so many people from across the world. There were more than 106,000 visitors and 2,038 exhibitors, making it the biggest Euroshop of all time. More than 60% of Euroshop visitors traveled from more than 90 countries around the globe.

As Amigo continues to grow internationally, it was exciting to see the opportunities, get new ideas and meet new people. Below are some pictures. I'm already looking forward to Euroshop 2014!

Memphis Library

Amigo power operated vehicles can be found any place someone may need walking assistance: grocery and retail stores, museums, hospitals, and even libraries. Recently, the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library in Memphis, Tenn. received two Amigo POVs  to assist library patrons on their search for the perfect book. Along with safety features such as a rear safety bumper and electromagnetic brake, each Amigo is equipped with the SmartSensor anti-impact system. The SmartSensor detects objects up to 30 inches ahead and gently slows down the Amigo when an object nears the sensor.

Response has been extremely positive with the availability of the Amigo RDs. "I was able to explore and enjoy the library with much greater ease," expresses Robert, a frequent patron of the library. "Thank you so much!"

With 330,000 square feet of space among 5 floors, I'm sure the Amigos will be used constantly!

Interested in having an Amigo in your library? Talk to your local library director about different options for securing an Amigo to assist visitors. We'd be happy to help if you have any questions. Feel free to call us any time at 1-800-MY-AMIGO.

How is Your Seat Working for You?

(This post is the first in a 3-part series. See part 2 here.)

I cannot begin to express how important the choice of seating is for your Amigo. The Amigo was designed to allow the user to move freely using the swivel seat and maintain proper posture while remaining comfortable. Adding proper seating prevents pressure sores and keeps our owners comfortable and happy. Amigo offers a variety of seating options to suit your needs. In the video below, I talk about the importance of seating and give an introduction to the different cushions we offer.

Daffodil Days

Every spring the American Cancer Society holds its annual Daffodil Days fundraiser. What an uplifting way to give hope to those fighting cancer and raise funds for a cure! Amigo employees are participating again this year to raise awareness and help save lives.

For just $10 (without a vase) and $15 (with a vase) you'll receive a bundle of 10 daffodils to brighten your home or office. For $25 give a "Gift of Hope" donation which sends daffodils anonymously to local patients, funds life-saving research and provides free community-based programs and services that help ease the cancer experience for patients and their families

A bundle of fresh daffodils is an easy way to brighten someone's day and is a brilliant reminder that we'll soon be seeing buds on the trees and slivers of green peaking through the lifeless soil. Please visit Daffodil Days to find a coordinator in you area to place your order. Together we can find a cure!
