The Accessible Icon - An Accurate Depiction

The International Symbol of Access has been a staple around the world since 1969. The classic blue logo can be found on anything from bathroom doors to parking lots and has been widely accepted as the symbol for people with disabilities. However, a recently formed group is advocating for an update to this classic logo.

The Accessible Icon Project has developed an updated version, depicting an individual who is more active while using their wheelchair. The group feels that the proposed logo portrays a wheelchair user who is in motion and more engaged in their environment.

We think the updated version looks great – a much more accurate portrayal of many people with disabilities we’ve met! To support the Accessible Icon Project, click here to visit their website.
