Children's Fiction with Positive Images of Disability

Still finishing Christmas shopping?

The website and mobile app Goodreads lets you track the books you’ve read, the books you want to read and the books your friends are reading.

Goodreads created a list of their recommended children’s books that show positive images of disabilities.

Learning about disabilities at an early age helps children be more tolerant and compassionate later in life. Click here to see the books Goodreads recommends!

Our favorite book for kids and adults is Amigo owner Ron Bachman’s Walk This Way. Ron travels the US and Canada speaking about bullying and loving yourself for who you are. Click here to order Walk This Way on Amazon.

Amigo Mobility Book Giveaway WINNER: Marilyn!

Congratulations to Marilyn Miller from St. Johns Michigan! Marilyn was randomly selected to win a copy of Amigo owner Ron Bachman’s new book Walk This Way. Thank you for sending us an example on how you stayed positive during a difficult time:

“I have stayed positive by anticipating needs and making adaptations, including adding a scooter in my life when walking became challenging. A friend helped me with this transition pointing out the advantages of buying an Amigo. I purchased an Amigo, and now, more than 30 years later, am using my third one. Having mobility has been an essential part of my independence and Amigo reliability is no small part of my positive life style.”

We hope you enjoy the book!

Check back on our blog and our Facebook page frequently for more opportunities to win prizes or be featured on our blog.

Professors Create Souped-Up Toy Cars for Kids with Disabilities

Two professors from the University of Delaware bought battery-powered Jeeps and Barbie cars from a toy store to make mobility and socializing safer and easier for children with disabilities under the age of three.

With there being no similar product on the market, these professors are not only creating the first toys of this kind, they are also providing videos to parents so they can modify their own battery-powered car for their child.

With these adaptive toys, children with disabilities are able to safely keep up with their friends, or even lead the pack.

Innovative Mobility: The Tankchair

Similar to the way Amigo Mobility started back in 1968, Brad Soden wanted to find a way for the world to be more accessible for a family member. His wife was injured in an accident and a traditional wheelchair didn’t allow her to fully experience the mountainside on their family camping trips.

After two years of hard work, Soden created the Tankchair. The rugged mobility solution has allowed the world to be more accessible for his wife and many others.
